Deontay Wilder Will Fight in UK, But Not Now

August 23, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Deontay Wilder has once again disturbed the boxing world, only this time it wasn’t with his super-strong punches. The heavyweight champion from the United States stated earlier today that he wants to fight in the United Kingdom and that he has nothing against that in the future.

“I definitely have plans to defend my title here, especially when I unify the division. It is getting very, very close,” said Wilder.

The American who was eager to fight Anthony Joshua in the past, is now playing the game same as the Brit who didn’t want to meet him while he was the holder of three belts. Back then, Wilder was challenging AJ for a final showdown, which would decide the who is the ultimate ruler of the heavyweight category. But Joshua always found some way to decline the fight for some reason. Either was that a low offer to Wilder, or some other unacceptable condition, but the match never took place.

The situation changed radically over the last few months. At first Tyson Fury got back on the scene, and he and Wilder put up one of the best shows in the current decade. Joshua was losing his publicity and decided to jump across the ocean and start fighting there, but his shocking loss against Andy Ruiz Jr. left him without the title.

Now, he wants to get back at the top as soon as possible, but things aren’t going as he planned. Fury and Wilder chose other opponents for their next fights, and it appears that the two are much closer of clashing one more time, than fighting with Joshua. That provoked the Brit who openly criticized both rivals for choosing other opponents and not him.

“I give people the opportunity to fight in front of the biggest crowd, the biggest global audience, get the most publicity, earn the highest purse, and to become champion. They turn it down. Credit to Ruiz Jr.,” said Joshua,

AJ couldn’t make a deal with Andy Ruiz Jr. about the venue of their rematch for a long time. Both fighters wanted to fight in front of their own crowd but eventually decided to go with a neutral country. The fight will take place in Saudi Arabia on December 7.

Wilder fights against Luis Ortiz for the second time, and after that, he intends to have another clash with Tyson Fury.

“Most definitely it will be Fury after Ortiz. I will get rid of Ortiz then get rid of Fury,” said Wilder.

On the other side, Tyson Fury, whose comeback has changed everything in the heavyweight category arranged a fight against Otto Wallin in Paradise, Nevada. He too is eager to have one more contest against Wilder, for whom he stated that is his biggest rival at the moment.

Both guys don’t want to fight Joshua right now, because of his previous behavior towards them.

Wilder’s statement is indicating that he might accept the fight but sometime in the future when he becomes the sole ruler of the heavyweight boxing. It was interpreted by some of the experts that even if he clashes with Joshua, the first fight won’t be outside the US. He clearly stated that he would come to the UK as a champion.

“I look forward to dancing with the best of the best. One day there will be one champion, one face, one name – Deontay Wilder.”

An interesting fall is ahead of us, and the next spring could be one of the most interesting in the recent history of the boxing world.
