Diego Costa Scores Four Goals, Atletico Madrid Humiliates Real Madrid, 7-3

July 27, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Atletico Madrid humiliated their biggest rivals and the most successful soccer club in the world, Real Madrid, with trashing them 7-3 last night! This is one of the worst defeats for the Los Blancos in their history, and what makes it even more painful is the fact that Atletico inflicted it upon them.

Some 57,000 spectators at MetLife stadium had the opportunity to witness a historic match. There weren’t many situations in which Real trails 0-5 at the halftime, even in the friendly games. Atletico simply blew them away from the field, getting even for all those defeats in the past.

Real was looking demoralized, crushed and torn into pieces throughout the entire match. They even had some luck to decrease the gap in the final five minutes by scoring two goals. Their captain Sergio Ramos told the reporters that losing this way is unacceptable.

“There are many ways in which to lose, but we can’t be doing it like we did today,” the strong center-back said.

Atletico had a 4-0 advantage after less than half an hour of play. Diego Costa struck for the first time in the first minute, and until he received the red card in the 65th minute, he added three more goals. The newcomer, and one of the most talented players in the world, young Joa Felix doubled the lead in the 8th minute, before Corea added his goal. Until the end of the halftime, Costa posted his name to the scoresheet twice more.

Six minutes into the second period, Costa beat Keylor Navas who replaced Courtois at the break. It was the 59th minute when Real managed to break the ice, and it was Nacho who netted.

Diego Costa ended his glorious day in his style, with a red card. He and Carvajal entered into one fight, and the referee Ted Unkel showed the path towards the locker room for both guys. Vitolo made it 7-1 for the red and white from Madrid, but Benzema in the 85th and Sanchez in 89th minute made things a little bit more bearing for the 12-time European champions.

Zinedine Zidane stated that everything that happened on the field of MetLife stadium began because of Real’s slow start of the match.

“We began the game very poorly,” Real Madrid manager explained his view of the situation. “It was a high-level match, we began poorly. They scored seven goals on us, that cannot happen. The players know this, they’re disappointed. But they can’t dwell on it either.”

Meanwhile, Diego Simeone, Atletico’s coach was thrilled following the match. Still, the Argentinian didn’t want to celebrate too much, as he knows that this victory doesn’t have to mean anything, especially when the competitive part of the season begins.

“We found good spots to get out quickly and with precision. It’s important the precision in football and every time we had a chance to score, we could,” said Simeone.

Real Madrid couldn’t win at least one of its three matches in the United States. Los Blancos were defeated against Bayern Munich in the opening game of the tour, 3-1, then managed to squeeze out a draw versus Arsenal 2-2, and now lost against hated local rivals. The fans are not happy with the way Zidane’s reconstruction has begun. All those signings didn’t show any quality. Furthermore, the veterans who stayed can’t be recognized anymore.

Atletico showed that even without Antoine Griezmann and Diego Godin, who were two icons of the club in the past several years, the team still has enough quality to be competitive. Felix’s arrival secured them a talented leader for the next decade, and according to some sources, one bomb is set to explode at Wanda Metropolitan pretty soon. Some English media are claiming that Tottenham’s superstar Christian Eriksen might join the Spanish powerhouse any time now.
