English Premier League: Chelsea vs. Tottenham Preview, Odds, Prediction

August 10, 2022 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The game between Chelsea and Tottenham should be a fun one to watch. We have the two local rivals going against one another, but not just that. These two teams are direct rivals for the top spots in the Premiership and the UEFA Champions League place. So there is every possible factor for a good game. Chelsea is in a strange place, selling its attackers while strengthening the back line. Werner’s departure was quite a shock, you have to admit it. Meanwhile, the Spurs are looking good, and they’ve opened the new season furiously against Southampton. Conte and the boys want to keep pushing at the same pace.

Besides this one, we have a preview of the derby between Arsenal and Leicester City.

Preview

Chelsea (+125) defeated Everton in the opening round, 0-1, but they didn’t impress anyone. Tuchel’s team is far from playing well, and if he doesn’t change something, the Blues’ season isn’t too promising.

Some would say that the three points are all that matters, but really, in the current situation, that isn’t the case. Chelsea allowed Everton to seize the command on the field, and to endanger Mendy throughout the majority of the game. We haven’t seen too much from the Blues’ players upfront, and the reason might be the fact that Chelsea doesn’t have too many of them.

In the meantime, the media headlines claim that Tuchel wants another defender, this time, Wesley Fofana from Leicester. The fans are a bit frustrated because of that, and they want a striker, not the third or the fourth defender in this transfer window.

Tottenham (+220) took the first hit against Southampton, but that only woke them up. After falling behind, Conte’s crew became relentless, scoring four times until the final whistle, and missing a chance to add at least two more goals to their account.

Now, the interesting part here is that neither Kane or Son scored in this one, which is a rarity when these two guys are healthy and play together. Richarlison didn’t play, due to a suspension, meaning that there is still room for improvement in Tottenham’s attack.

What we noticed as a change in their play is that Tottenham dictates the tempo and creates play with the ball in its feet, which wasn’t the case before. They usually relied upon counter-attacks, but now they pressure and create chances from positional situations.

Latest News

Werner is out, Cucurella debuted, and we could expect him in the starting lineup for this one, while the front row is reserved for Mount, Havertz and Sterling.

On the other side, Richarlison should start this one, and we will see who goes out. Conte could put Perisic in for tactical reasons.

Head to Head Games

Last year we saw two EPL games and two in the EFL, and in all four, Chelsea managed to triumph without a goal allowed, which is impressive.

Prediction

Unlike the previous campaign, we see that things have changed. Chelsea is experiencing certain trouble, and things aren’t that great for them. Meanwhile, Tottenham has a positive swing, and, may we add, they left a much better impression in the opening round and during the preseason. That is why we go with Tottenham or draw here, a double chance.

Pick: Tottenham or draw -190
