Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero created a lot of bad blood between them leading to tonight’s fight. Davis, the reigning WBA champion, puts his belt on the line against one of the most controversial fighters in the division and a “usual villain,” Romero. The two were constantly throwing vulgar words at one another in the media, creating a very tense atmosphere in the media. They should have met much earlier, but Romero’s legal troubles prevented that from happening, and Davis had to fight Isaac Cruz. Though, after all the problems, the altercations, insults, etc., we will finally have a chance to see what these boys are all about tonight.
Preview
Gervonta Davis (-800) had 26 battles in his career, won all of them, and knocked out the rival on 24 occasions. Since 2017 this guy has been in the title mix, becoming one of the best fighters in the division and arguably the biggest talent.
Davis is an-all around boxer. He has everything that it takes to become a ruler of the division. Quickness, power, tactical knowledge, footwork. This guy simply has it all, and it is no wonder why he has a perfect record at the moment. His most recent fight was against Isaac Cruz, and it was the first one after 16 consecutive in which he couldn’t KO the rival. Though, he was pretty dominant.
The thing with Davis, in this case, is that he needs a convincing win, because this is his last fight under the Mayweather Promotions, meaning that there is a lot at stake for him in this battle.
Rolando Romero (+550) won all 14 fights, 12 via KO. His enormous punching power and an extremely strong physique brought him where he is today, and may we add, that this guy has a pretty high ceiling. The only thing is that he needs to work even harder to cover up for all of his weaknesses.
Romero has a habit of leaving himself open in the moments once he attacks, and that is mostly because he searches for that one punch that would hand him the win. Now, such a risk is not acceptable against the champions because they, too, have ferocious punching power.
He is a very flashy and arrogant person, and sometimes, that can disturb the rival, especially if Romero has the edge in the match and starts to collect points on the scoreboard. Though, we have seen him in problems, and that was against Jackson Martinez. Back then, the scoring judges handed him the win, but it was obvious that he didn’t deserve the same.
Prediction
Gervonta is called Tank for obvious reasons. Even though he has a shorter reach and maybe looks smaller compared to Romero, he is a massive favorite here because of all the other factors. No.1 is his tactical superiority. We sincerely think that the Tank will find that one moment once Romero opens and immediately use it. Unlike Romero, Davis is a patient and very stubborn guy who knows to be rational in the ring when needed. That is why we predict his KO win tonight.
Pick: Davis via KO
