Jared Cannonier Stuns Jack Hermansson With KO in the Second Round !

September 28, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Jared Cannonier made one big upset overseas, by defeating Jack Hermansson in the main event of tonight’s UFC Fight Night 160 in Denmark. The Royal Arena in Copenhagen went silent right after the start of the second round, when their favorite went down following a stunning uppercut of the American.

With his rival on the ground and his back on the canvas, Cannonier (13-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) wasted no time in using this opportunity to finish the match. Strong punches and his rampaging attack made the referee stop this event.

It was something which just a few expected. Hermansson (20-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) was the absolute favorite coming into this match, as most of the fans and pundits saw him as a better fighter than his rival, and more versatile also. The majority of them believed in his wrestling skills, and the fact that his stamina is much bigger than Cannonier’s, but eventually that didn’t help him at all.

Hermansson was trying to take down Cannonier early on, engaging in several attempts to do that. However, the American was smart, managing to escape each time from that situation. He never allowed Hermansson to get on top of him, and was very intelligent when avoiding the Norwegian’s grip. It appears that his team did their homework superbly, studying the opponent, and finding the perfect strategy on how to neutralize his main advantages.

Hermansson’s pressure was in the first half of the opening round, and until the end of the same, the fighters traded punches from the standup, most of them being jabs.

The situation changed radically 27 seconds into the second round. Hermansson was decisive to go forward, but while doing so, Cannonier hit him with a perfect uppercut sending him on his back. That was pretty much it from this fight.

Killa Gorilla was thrilled following the fight. It is one of his biggest successes in the UFC, and the win which established him as one of the most intriguing guys in the middleweight division. Up until this point, he was a respectable fighter, but nothing more than that. But with this victory, Cannonier became one of the best in his category.

“After a win like that, I feel on top of the world,” Cannonier said after the triumph. I was more than ready for tonight’s challenge. “I was happy to receive that energy from Jack, and I was even more happy to give it back to him.”

"These fans are awesome. They are receiving me much better than the Brazilian fans last time."

This is his third win, and so far Cannonier didn’t lose a single fight in three contests in the middleweight category. As we said, he is now one of the best in this division, and pretty soon his name will appear in much more exciting and important events. However, Killa Gorilla doesn’t think too much about the future and all isn’t keen on making some plans.

“I don’t know what’s next for me. I don’t care about rankings. All I care about is winning the next fight,” he said.

With three consecutive knockout wins against David Branch, Anderson Silva and now Hermansson, the 35-year old drew a lot of attention. He just might be the next title contender.

Meanwhile, this is the first loss for Hermansson since 2017. Coming into this fight, he lost just once in the latest seven contests and was aiming to strengthen his position on the list of the potential title contenders with a win over Cannonier. His plans are now severely damaged.
