Jorge Masvidal Defeats Nate Diaz, President Trump Attends the Fight

November 3, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Jorge Masvidal took the BMF belt tonight, after defeating Nate Diaz at the UFC 244. The Gamebred won after the doctor’s request to stop the fight due to Diaz’s severe cut above his right eye.

It was a consequence of a massive elbow hit in the opening round when Masvidal and Diaz went into a clinch. After the end of the third sequence, the doctor went inside the ring to evaluate the degree of the injury. Once decided that it might be too dangerous for Diaz to continue, he went to the official in the ring and demanded the match to be stopped. It didn’t make the fans happy, as well as the fighters, but the risk was too high.

But Gamebred already announced that he wants another match with Diaz, which will get him the chance to finish the job properly.

“For a fact, I told Nate right now, let’s run it back,” Masvidal said. “UFC, make it happen. Let’s run it back. I don’t like to leave the ring like this with my opponent conscious. There’s only one way to do it, and that’s to baptize them, and I didn’t get to baptize Nate, so we’re going to run it back.”

Masvidal was a better fighter tonight, as the dominated in all three rounds of the event. He hurt Diaz early on, sending him on the canvas, after a nice combination of punches and kicks. He would go for a ground-and-pound immediately, but couldn’t finish the fight.

A similar situation took place in the second when Diaz once again fell to the ground following Masvidal’s strong kick to the stomach.

Diaz tried to jump out the Gamebred at the start of the third, but Masvidal regrouped and continued in his rhythm. We then saw him throwing a nice right hook, which forced the Stockton Slugger to be on the back foot again. The entire round came down to an open fight in the middle of the octagon, which set the crowd at the Madison Square Garden on fire.

Prior to stopping the fight, the doctor spoke with Diaz, who was ready to continue the bout and who got up to get ready for the next round. Yet, they didn’t want to risk anything.

“I didn’t think they were going to stop it,” he said. “I was getting ready to get started.”

Masvidal was much better, and it was obvious that he feels a lot comfortable in the octagon, unlike his rival. Ring rust was all over the place for Diaz, who had just one fight before meeting with Gamebred following a long absence from the UFC. In all three rounds, the referees gave the edge to Masvidal. According to the statistics, he had a 139-87 advantage in strikes.

“”He got the job done like he was supposed to so right on to Jorge!” said Diaz in the ring following the fight.

President Trump attended the event, and he received a mixed welcome at the MSG. A bigger part of the crowd was cheering once he got introduced, but there were those who booed the USA President.

Mr. Trump is known as a great admirer of the UFC, and many MMA fighters backed him up during the 2016 elections.

The way things look at the moment, we are probably going to have the rematch between these two guys. Both of them are more than willing to have another clash, and judging by the reactions on the social networks, the fans want to see the ending without the doctor’s intervention.
