Josh Rosen: “I am a Good Quarterback and a Good Leader”

April 29, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Josh Rosen will have a chance for a fresh start in Miami. We might say that it is odd to hear the phrase “fresh start” when one 22-year old is involved in the story.

But that is life in one of the most dynamic sports competitions in the world.

After a lot of enigmas, questions and all kinds of speculations, the guy who came last season from UCLA will try to find his luck in Florida. The Miami Dolphins decided to pick him to be their new quarterback. The position which is not so popular among players in the league.

The Dolphins didn’t have luck over a recent couple of years with QBs, mostly because of injuries, or bad judgment of the organization. During that time, the job of being a Miami’s quarterback has become one of the worst things in the league.

The time has come for a change. From the standpoint of a Dolphins’ fan, this is a big moment, because they have enormous expectations from Rosen. His view is a bit different.

“I’m excited and ready for it. … At the end of the day I just want to come in and play football and compete and have fun,” he said.

After not getting a proper chance at Arizona, he was already written off by the Cardinals’ organization, and by the majority of the experts and the fans. Many were criticizing his productivity saying that 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with 66.7 passer rating. But most of them forgot that this offensive line was like an average college one.

The entire situation with the Cardinals, talks about his future and all the pressure on him about the future after Kyler Murray’s arrival didn’t affect Rosen. He had a nice comparison when one reporter asked him how he handled all the hype and uncertainty regarding his status.

“I’m fine,” Rosen said. “It’s not like I’m some child soldier in Darfur. I’ve had it pretty good. I think it’s time I had some legitimate adversity handed to me.”

The newly appointed coach Brian Flores has a clear vision of what to do with Rosen. He will start the season along with Ryan Fitzpatrick, with whom he will compete for the place of the starting QB. Flores worked under Bill Belichick and was an important part of the Patriots’ machinery on their way to four Super Bowl titles, and has a lot of motives to prove himself. The same applies to Rosen who will also have a huge reason to prove many people wrong for writing him off that soon.

“Very rarely do you get a second chance to make a first impression,” Rosen said. “It felt like I got drafted twice.”

Many doubts are surrounding this young guy, who is confident that he can crush them. The reporters at the press conference had all kinds of questions, and one of them was about his self-esteem and does he still thinks that he can be a franchise quarterback.

“Yes,” Rosen said, “because I think I am a good quarterback and a good leader.”

We will see about that. If it is true, the poor Dolphins really hit the jackpot, as they need a refreshment on the field. They are 13-19 in the past two years, and were only once above .500 in the last 10 years. That was in 2016 when they posted their only playoff appearance since 2009.

The reputation of the franchise has been endangered, and betting on Rosen is one of the riskier things Dolphins did. We’ll find out whether was that a smart move very soon.

We will also find out is he really a good quarterback and a leader like he claims.
