Kansas City Chiefs Win the Super Bowl LIV, Mahomes SB MVP

February 3, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Kansas City Chiefs have won the Super Bowl LIV, after making a huge rally against the San Francisco 49ers, 31-20. It is the first trophy for the Chiefs in 50 years, and the first for their head coach Andy Reid.

“This is what it’s all about,” Reid said. “What a great team, great coaches. Appreciate every bit of it.”

His Chiefs were once again in a bad position, trailing without too many positive things in their game. But like each time during this offseason, Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the guys found a way to overturn the flow on the field, and to come back.

Kansas City scored three touchdowns in the last 6:13 of the game, to stun the rivals, and post a massive win, which will be a subject of many talks in the years to come.

“It’s this team. We have heart,” Mahomes said after the win. “Coach [Andy Reid] pushes us to be the best people we can be and never give up.”

Mahomes added another MVP honors to his collection. Following the league’s, he has one from the Super Bowl. KC’s quarterback had two touchdown passes, one touchdown, two picks, and was also picks twice and sacked on four occasions.

It didn’t happen to be one of his best performances of the year, but the final quarter definitely was something spectacular from this young man. He would hit Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins with 44 and 38-yard passes, before finding Travis Kelce and Damien Williams once in the red zone to take this one from the 49ers and got the KC fans what they waited for half a century.

Damien Williams rushed for 104 yards on 17 carries for one TD. Mahomes had 29 rushing yards and one TD. Meanwhile, Hill posted 105 receiving yards on 9 catches, Watkins 95 on five.

On the other side, San Francisco was leading 20-10 in the moments when Tarvarius Moore picked Mahomes’ pass with 11:57 left until the end. They couldn’t utilize this situation, punting the ball. On the next three drives, they would fail to deliver, while on the other side, on each occasion, the Chiefs scored a TD.

“I think the turning point was when we got a turnover and then we didn’t execute on offense and they got the ball right back and drove it 87 yards or however far it was,” George Kittle said.

Jimmy G was 20-for-31 for 219 yards, for one TD pass and two interceptions. Raheem Mostert rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown, Deebo Samuel had 53 on three runs. Kyle Juszczyk had one receiving score. Neither of the San Francisco’s players had more than 42 receiving yards, and yet five of them had at least 35.

Kyle Shanahan was disappointed, but announced that the 49ers’ wouldn’t be discouraged with this loss, but come back even stronger.

“We’ll lick our wounds, we’ll get over this. We’ll be fired up for next year, we gotta lot of people coming back,” he said.

His 49ers fell apart similar to the way the Atlanta Falcons have against the New England Patriots. Nevertheless, San Francisco showed massive potential, and they need to be counted on during the next season. With this team, Shanahan will no doubt be in the position to chase the Super Bowl once again.

As for the Chiefs, the years of hard work paid off to Reid, and the Chiefs’ unfair loss to the Patriots last season is finally erased.

Now, we are up to the offseason, which will no doubt be very interesting.
