Kyler Murray: “I’m A Confident Guy”

December 27, 2018 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The hype around Kyler Murray isn’t calming down. The Heisman trophy winner still didn’t decide which sport is going to be his primary in the future, and because of that, Oklahoma’s quarterback is in the focus of media attention.

For now, the only thing on his mind is the upcoming clash against Alabama, which is the last step before reaching the NCAA championship game.

“It’s never bad to have options,” Murray said Thursday, “but right now my main focus is this game.”

Now, many pundits thought that Murray’s refusal to commit playing only football comes out from the fact that he is told to be too small for the professionals.

With only 5-10 and 195 pounds, he would be one of the smallest QBs in the NFL, therefore, it would be a problem for him to compete with much bigger and stronger guys. But the 22-year old says that he feels confident, and that all the stories about his size have no influence on his decision.

“I’m a confident guy. There’s not a lot of short quarterbacks in the league, but I think there’s more guys paving the way for the transition of not really caring about how big you are, how tall you are. I’ve played this game my whole life and I’ve always felt I could do it.” Murray said when asked could he play in the NFL.

However, he still didn’t confirm what is going to be his final choice. Whether is that because of the publicity and creating even more hype, or the fact that he wants to focus entirely on the upcoming game as said, his decision will not be known for at least two more days, probably more.

Another reason why Murray is often mentioned in the news over the past few days is his status for the game against the Crimson Tide. He missed Wednesday’s media session, and many of Sooners’ fans immediately began fearing that he might skip one of the most important games in the last couple of years. His matchup against Tua Tagovalioa, who was a runner-up in the Heisman Trophy ballot is considered to be one of the most interesting NCAA battles in the previous decade.

Tagovailoa was the guy with the most votes in the history of Heisman award who didn’t win, and this gives you a clear picture, when talking about the quality of these two youngsters.

Murray already signed a contract with Oakland A’s worth $4.66 million. He was drafted as the 9th overall pick in the last MLB draft by the A’s who allowed him to play football for one more year before committing to baseball. But their decision could be wrong if this versatile athlete decides to choose NFL over MLB.

So far this season Murray’s stats have been amazing. He has 4,053 yards through the air, 40 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions. His rushing game is also impressive, with 892 yards and 11 touchdowns, and all of this made it possible for his Sooners to reach a 12-1 record and compete in the Orange Bowl.

The game against Alabama is considered to be the finals before the finals, and many think that whoever wins in this contest will win the whole championship for sure.

Murray’s status and health condition will have an enormous influence on the final outcome, and if he manages to recover and play with 100%, Oklahoma’s chances are going to be way higher than without him.

Therefore, do not miss the game on Saturday. It will be the biggest spectacle of the college football season and the great competition between two very gifted quarterbacks.
