Last-Second FG Saves New England Patriots Against the New York Jets, 30-27

November 10, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Monday Night Football saw the New England Patriots struggling against the New York Jets, but earning a late win, 30-27. Nick Folk’s 51-yard field goal with the time expiring brought Bill Belichick’s side a much-needed triumph that not only snapped a negative streak, but kept them in the playoff hunt.

The Pats scored 13 unanswered points in the final quarter to avoid a defeat against an embarrassing Jets, who played very well for the majority of the game, we need to admit that. If it weren’t for Joe Flacco’s unreasonable decision to throw a deep pass on the first play of the Jets’ drive midway through the fourth, everything would be different.

JC Jackson intercepted Flacco’s pass, and the whole game went down for the hosts from that moment. They started making penalties, bad coverages, allowed a TD, quickly lost the possession, and had to punt, only to see the Pats winning in the last seconds. Both frustrating and painful.

“It hurts. I thought guys battled. They gave everything they had. We had a few mistakes that really cost us, cost us the game.” Basically, they imploded on both sides of the ball in the fourth quarter, blowing a 10-point lead,” said Adam Gase, Jets’ head coach.

It seems that Gase might be fired pretty soon. He became the first coach in the franchise’s history with a 0-9 start, and the pressure on him is increasing as time goes by. Reportedly, the Jets are not willing to wait the end of the season with him in charge, but we’ll see how that one goes.

As for Flacco, he played very well until that late meltdown. He ended the match with 262 passing yards and three passing TDs, along with that pick. Breshad Perriman caught 101 yards, and Denzel Mims 62. Frank Gore had 12 snaps for 46 yards.

The Pats had a very well focused and composed Cam Newton, who didn’t throw a TD toss but rushed for two scores. Super Cam had 274 yards through the air, without any fumbles, touchdowns, picks, or sacks. He was very conservative, completing his opening 11 passes.

Jacobi Meyers was his favorite target with 12 hits for fantastic 169 yards. Newton spoke after the match about the relationship he has with Meyers, whom he met a long time ago.

“I’ve known Jacobi when he was 16,17 years coming out of high school, and both of us being from the greater Atlanta area…For us to have the same type of connection is just impactful for many reasons.”

Rex Burkhead had one touchdown on the ground, and 56 rushing yards, and Damiere Byrd caught five passes for 65 yards.

The Patriots were close to what would be a humiliating loss against the worst team in the league and not just that, Their playoff run would be practically over. With three wins and five losses, they still have some chance to reach the postseason.

Up next, New England hosts the Baltimore Ravens led by the MVP, Lamar Jackson. After that, Newton and the guys are traveling to Houston to face the Texans, and that might be a good chance to pull a road win.

The Jets play against the Chargers in Los Angeles, before meeting the Mimi Dolphins at home. They could become one of the teams with zero wins during the season, like Cleveland Browns in 2017 and Detroit Lions in 2008. Even though many believe that such a situation wouldn’t be painful due to the top pick in the upcoming draft, we disagree. Trevor Lawrence is still quiet when it comes to all the speculations regarding his future, especially on those suggesting that he should refuse to play in New York if they got the No.1 choice.
