Lionel Messi Potentially in Inter Miami Next Year

July 18, 2022 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Inter Miami might land Lionel Messi in the future; that is what their chief business officer, Xavier Asensi, stated yesterday night. His interview for El Mundo Deportivo shook the world and already created massive hype in the football communities, both in the US and in Europe.

Throughout the interview, there were some mentions of Inter’s future, and Asensi mentioned Messi in the conversation. What we need to say is that he was an executive in Barcelona and knows Messi very well, which added even more fuel to the fire.

“We want to have the best players in the world, and I think Messi is the best in history. From there, it’s up to him. We want to be the reference point for football in the U.S., that’s one of the objectives of the organization,” Asensi mentioned to the reporter.

It is possible that Asensi knows something that others don’t. From this point of view, the only certain thing is that the Argentinian’s contract expires in 2023 and that the chances of seeing his stay in Paris are pretty low. Messi didn’t show a glimpse of his potential, and overall, his first year in France was more or less mediocre.

“Messi has expressed publicly that he wants to come to the #MLS and we hope he comes to @InterMiamiCF,” Chief Business Officer Xavier Asensi. pic.twitter.com/QO7PL64gBg

Only 11 goals in 34 games, without an expected impact, and without any major performances on the European stage, all left a bitter taste in PSG fans. This is a much worse average than in Barca, where he scored 672 goals in 778 appearances. Some suggest that the presence of Neymar and Mbappe’s unsorted status at the time was the main reason for PSG’s poor performances and mildly toxic chemistry on the field.

PSG was eliminated from the Champions League to Real Madrid. Despite having the lead from the first leg, and leading in Madrid at halftime, the Saints were out following a shocking ending and Los Blancos’ big comeback. The fans blamed Messi, but their anger focused on Neymar, and partially on the head coach Mauricio Pochetinno, who would be removed from the picture later.

Messi decided to come to Paris following a victorious quest at Copa America, where his Argentina defeated Brazil in the finals on their own soil, 0-1. His ambitions for the upcoming World Cup are the highest possible, and it seems that the entire team heads to Qatar with only one goal, which is to win the trophy.

Luis Suárez asked if he can join Inter Miami together with Leo Messi in the next years: "Hopefully… you never know what happens. We've a great connection", tells @ellarguero. 🇺🇾🇦🇷 #InterMiamiCF

As time goes by, Argentina plays better and better, and following that win over Brazil, they kept on pounding at the same level. World Cup qualifiers or friendly international matches, it doesn’t make a difference, Messi and the boys are rolling over the rivals.

With 35 years, Messi is a veteran, but he still has enough power to hurt any given defense in the world.

MLS would suit him well, and Inter would most certainly become one of the top favorites for the trophies. Also, the marketing aspect of his move would be one of the most lucrative in the USA, in any of the sports.

The franchise from Florida has one ace up its sleeve: David Beckham, whose reputation is massive and who could lure Messi to come to Miami. Apart from him, Asensi is another factor that can have a major impact.
