Liverpool Humiliates Leicester City at King Power, 4-0

December 26, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

King Power stadium saw monstrous Liverpool thrashing Leicester City, who entered this derby with high hopes. The Foxes were aiming to defeat the European and the world champs, but they suffered one of the most unpleasant defeats recently, 0-4. They are now 13 points ahead of today’s rival and also have a game in hand.

“We were very concentrated and the goals were absolutely nice and an important day for us,” Jurgen Klopp stated.

The Reds shredded them into pieces in front of their own crowd, sending a statement to all other rivals. The message was more than clear – “don’t think about the title.”

Just in case somebody didn’t understand that well, they repeated it four times, against the second-best defense in the league.

Liverpool exposed Leicester early on, not allowing the Foxes to breathe. They would continuously pressure the entire defensive lineup, making it hard for the hosts to start organizing their attack properly. On a few occasions, Chilwell and Ndidi made rookie mistakes but the Reds didn’t use them. However, in the 31st minute, Klopp’s artillery fired its first shot, with Firmino scoring a header from a nearby, following Chilwell’s terrible positioning while setting up an offside trap.

The guests were dominant that much that the home team’s players couldn’t create a single position for a goal attempt, let alone shot on target.

The second half was just a routine, with the Reds controlling the game and continuing to pressure the opponents. They would knockout Leicester in seven minutes, from 71st until 78th, delivering three goals and once again showing their attacking capacity. At first, Milner scored after a penalty, Firmino added another one, and at last, Alexander Arnold-Trent sealed the win.

“I don’t get on the scoresheet too often and I thought, yeah, just hit it first time,” Alexander-Arnold said. “You don’t really think you’re going to be in this position but we’re not going to take anything for granted and just keep going.”

On the other side, Jamie Vardy and James Maddison were stopped like never before this year. Both of them were helpless against the rival’s defense, and especially Maddison couldn’t shake off one or two guards who were near him each time the ball came into his possession. After the game, Kasper Schmeichel stated that although his team is way below Liverpool’s level of play.

“We strive to be like Manchester City and Liverpool but they are a lot further along in their journey.

Liverpool now has 52 points in 18 matches, while Leicester has 39, one more than Manchester City who visits Wolverhampton tomorrow. Chelsea is fourth with 32 after today’s loss at home to Southampton. Yet, for Millner, nothing is over.

“It’s one of many successful nights so far this season. We are not even halfway. So much can change and happen. The strength of this team is we tale it one game at a time.”

Just to remind you, the leaders have 17 wins and one draw this year.

The Reds will host Wolves next Sunday, before playing against Sheffield United also at Anfield on Thursday. Leicester travels to London to face the pale West Ham next Saturday, and after that goes to Newcastle on Wednesday.
