Manchester United, Arsenal and Wolves Post Good Results in Europa League

February 20, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

All three clubs from the English Premier League posted good results in the Europa League tonight. Arsenal and Wolves won, while Manchester United recorded a draw in Belgium.

United played just 1-1 on the road against Club Brugge but gained a solid position before the rematch at the Old Trafford.

The Red Devils opened the match slowly and allowed the home team to gain a lead through Dennis in the 15th minute. It was a spectacular goal, with only two touches required for it to happen. Brugge’s goalkeeper sent the ball way upfront towards Dennis, who was faster than both United’s center-backs and who reached the ball first, sending a lob from some 30 yards above rushed out Romero.

It was a combined mistake of United’s goalkeeper and the defense, but the guests bounced back pretty fast.

It was the 35th minute once Anthony Martial used a cardinal mistake of one of the Club Brugge’s players, stole the ball rushed for some 50 yards before routinely beating the hosts’ keeper.

Tony Martial scores again! 🙌

The game continued with both sides threatening, and Dennis, who was the best player on the pitch, had two more chances to strike but lacked composure when needed the most.

Brugge proved to be an excellent challenge to United, who had to work hard in order to take a draw back to England.

“It was a difficult game against a well organised team in difficult conditions,” said the Solskjaer . “I don’t think it was one of the best games.”

Weather conditions were pretty bad in Belgium with rain, snow, and low temperature preventing the players from showing their best.

The Norwegian manager also stated that he feels happy for Anthony Martial’s goal, and with Bruno Fernandes’s performance in the last ten minutes of the match.

he didn’t make enough runs in behind it was a frustrating night for him. He’s got two in two and you’ve to be patient as a striker – [be ready] when the chance comes,” he stated about Martial.

Up next the Red Devils play against Watford on Sunday.

The other two Premier League teams posted wins in their respective matches. Wolverhampton was better than Espanyol at Molineux, while Arsenal defeated Olympiacos on the road.

Wolves trashed their Spanish rivals with 4-0, and proved that they might be the dark horses for winning this competition. From the beginning up until the end of the clash, the home team was more than convincing against Espanyol.

Diego Jota was inspired tonight and the Wolves’ striker posted a hat-trick, beating Prieto in 15th, 67th, and 81st minute. The other scorer for the hosts was Ruben neves in the 53rd minute of the event.

It is safe to say that Nuno Espirito Santo’s crew already progressed to the round of 16, because it would be pretty sensational to see them losing a four-goal edge in the rematch.

On the other side, Arsenal got away from Athens with a 0-1 win. Once again, their fantastic counter-attack saved the day with Alexandre Lacazette executing a superb action set up by his teammates. It was the 81st minute when Gunners scored, and in those moments, the hosts had an initiative. After that, Arsenal could have netted twice more, but the result stayed like this.

All in all, this was an even match, and if it went the other way, it wouldn’t be unfair. Mikel Arteta’s boys need to be much better in the upcoming period, and they mustn’t relax before the rematch, because when these two teams met at Emirates the last time, Olympiacos won.

The rematches are in seven days.
