Philadelphia Eagles Make Huge Win Against the Rams, 30-23

December 17, 2018 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Three weeks ago most of the Eagles fans already said goodbye to the playoffs. However, with three wins in a row, the reigning champions are still in the hunt for the wild-card spot.

Last night, Philly defeated one of the biggest Super Bowl contenders, the Los Angeles Rams on the road with 30-23.

“We thought coming in that there was gonna be some opportunity,” said Eagles coach Doug Pedersen at the press conference.

And for sure the champ have used all those chances, stunning the Rams in the third quarter with 17 straight points, freezing Jared Goff for the second week in a row. For the Eagles, this game was a matter of life or death, and they didn’t have a way out.

“Our backs have been against the wall for the last few weeks. Hopefully, this gives us momentum for the rest of the season. Our goals are still in front of us.” Eagles coach added in front of the journalists.

Thought they weren’t involved directly in any of the touchdowns, Nick Foles and Alshon Jeffery led the offense of the guests. Foles threw for 270 yards, with 24 of 31 completion, being intercepted once. Meanwhile, Jeffrey had 160 receiving yards in 8 receptions, with the biggest one at the start of the third period, when he made a 50-yard play, setting the perfect position for Wendell Smallwood to execute.

We know he’s going to step up there and do the job. We rode that guy and we stuck with him (last year), and he went out and played for us tonight.” Smallwood spoke on Nick Foles’ comeback.

It is interesting that Foles made his first appearance last season after Wentz’s injury, right here at the Coliseum.

Smallwood with another one and rookie Josh Adams scored all three TD’s for Philly, while sophomore Jake Elliot made three of his four field goals.

The decisive moment of the game wasn’t created by any of the Eagles’ offensive players. It came from their special team.

With three minutes to go, Philadelphia had to punt. They were up seven points, and Jared Goff would have a chance to deliver one of his usual late hits. But D.J. Alexander recovered a fumble made by JoJo Natson, and the Eagles once again had the possession.

But there was more thrill to come because Elliot missed a 53-yard long field goal, and with 1:13 until the end, Rams once again had the ball. Eventually, Eagles defended themselves and posted a huge win which brings them back in the playoff picture.

Jared Goff couldn’t make a single touchdown pass for the second game in a row. He finished last night with 339 yards having completed 35 of his 54 passes, being intercepted twice.

Todd Gurley rushed into the end zone twice, but his overall performance was way below expected, as he carried the ball 12 times for only 48 yards.

Sean McVay suffered a second consecutive loss, and that is something which never happened to him since he sat on Rams’ bench

“That is something we’ve got to figure out, and we need to figure it out in a hurry,” McVay said. “We are doing things that are uncharacteristic of us. Guys are making decisions and mistakes we typically haven’t seen. ” McVay said after the match.

The Rams are now facing Arizona on the road, and that is the game they simply need to win. They are 11-3, with Chicago behind them with 10-4. The Bears have a better head-to-head result, and in case both sides finish with the same record, Goff and the boys are losing the home field advantage in the playoffs, and one week rest.

Eagles have a much harder task. They have to play against high-flying Houston Texans at home. Guests are coming for a win here, which would secure them the AFC South title. So, once again it is do or die for the champs.
