Serie A: AC Milan vs. Empoli Preview, Odds, Predictions (April 7)

AC Milan hosts Empoli before the first meeting in the UEFA Champions League against Napoli. This is an important contest for Rossoneri, who need three points to stay in the top four places of the Serie A standings. Right now, Milan is third, but with heavy pressure from behind with several teams in contention for next year’s Champions League. Empoli enjoys a nice campaign, with the team from Tuscany safe from any relegation talks. They are without any pressure and imperatives, which allows them to play their best football.

AC Milan (-300) rolled over Napoli in the previous meeting against the league leaders at San Paolo Stadium in Naples. A 0-4 victory over the future Serie A champs was completely unexpected, given the current form and quality of this year’s performances. 

It was the first win for Stefano Pioli’s unit following four games without a triumph. Milan had two losses and ties during this stretch, though, eliminating Tottenham from the UEFA Champions League round of 16.  

In 13 events at San Siro this year, the hosts have been solid, posting nine victories, two ties, and two defeats. Their goal difference is 28-17, and from what we’ve seen in the past, Milan has trouble restraining the rivals’ attacks. In only one of the past six Serie A events at San Siro, Milan failed to net twice.

Empoli (+800) was better than Lecce in the most recent event, 1-0, putting an end to a four-game losing streak and eight events in which this unit couldn’t post a victory. It was probably the worst period for them throughout the entire year.

Though, it won’t have any consequences, with the Blues having 12 points more than the first team under the red line. The primary goal for this club was to stay in the Serie A this season, and it seems it’s fulfilled. 

Empoli is without a victory for the past four road trips, losing three of them and posting one tie. All of these events had moderate efficiency, meaning two or three goals.

Lorenzo Tonelli is suspended due to a straight red card being received. Guglielmo Vicario will be a game-time decision for Friday’s clash.

Milan was confident in the year’s first meeting, winning 1-3 in Empoli. It was a highly interesting event with all the action in the last 15 minutes. Rebic scored for 0-1 in the 79th minute; Bajrami leveled in the second minute of the stoppage time. But in the very next attack, Ballo-Toure brought back the lead to Milan before Leao sealed the game in the sixth minute of injury time.

Milan will save some strength for Napoli, but we still believe they won’t miss a chance to beat the rivals at home. Empoli records below-average results on the road, and we’ve seen them losing against much weaker sides than Milan. We will take some risk here and bet on Milan’s victory by at least a two-goal margin. The odds on that are +100, which is excellent. For those who want a sure bet, just go with Milan’s plain victory.
