The European Super Cup features Manchester City and Sevilla. The two sides are the winners of last year’s respective European competitions, with the Citizens taking the UEFA Champions League and Sevilla the UEFA Europa League. These two units have earned the chance to open the season with another title if they triumph at Gorgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus. City is a massive favorite, but as always, Sevilla can’t be underestimated, with the Spanish team proving that it knows to play European games.

Manchester City (-300) opened the English Premier League with an easy victory over Burnley on the road. It was 3-0 for the EPL champs, who rolled over the Clarets already in the opening minutes, with Erling Haaland continuing his spree.

The big Norwegian scored twice in the first half, indicating that he isn’t going to slow down, yet go after another record-breaking season. The entire City team looked well, very fast and fluid, and above all, routine. Burnley isn’t a team that can compete with Guardiola’s machinery, yet that won’t diminish this success.

City had a very tough and good preparation period, playing games abroad and meeting some of the top teams in Europe. So far, everything is going according to plan, and the Citizens are sharpening their form before the upcoming challenges.

Sevilla (+750) lost the opening game of the La Liga championship to Valencia. Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan saw the Bats taking all three points with a 1-2 victory, thus spoiling the solid impression Rojoblancos made during the preseason. 

All three goals took place in the second 45 minutes, with Sevilla falling behind, then equalizing but getting a red card. Loic Balde was sent off in the 81st minute, which led to Guerra scoring a dagger two minutes before the end of the regulations. 

The majority of Sevilla’s games during the preseason have seen both teams scoring, and they ended with 2 or 3 goals.

Kevin de Bruyne left the pitch against Burnley in the 23rd minute, and he will be questionable before this event. The Belgian had hamstring problems since the UEFA Champions League finals, so Guardiola could leave him on the bench. 

For the moment, Sevilla has no problems with injured or absent players, and they are expected to appear with the best possible lineup.

Manchester City and Sevilla met in the group stage of last year’s UEFA Champions League. The Citizens have been ruthless, winning 0-4 in Span and 3-1 in Manchester.

Prediction

The Citizens are absolute favorites. Even if De Bruyne isn’t available, the difference in quality is too big. Haaland is in form, and we’ve seen him smashing Burnley, while on the other hand, Sevilla wasn’t that confident against Valencia in La Liga. When we look at the overall picture, Man City should triumph here, and we expect them to cover a 1.5-goal spread. The odds on that are currently at +115, which is a fantastic offer. At least in our opinion.
