UCL Roundup: Tottenham Rips Red Star, Juve Wins After a Comeback

October 22, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The third round of the Champions League has started, and the most important games this Tuesday took place in London and Istanbul. Tottenham Hotspurs have humiliated the former European and world champions Red Star, while Real Madrid managed to survive Turk Telekom arena and beat Galatasaray.

After several weeks of awful football and not being able to win a match, Tottenham finally showed its true face. Mauricio Pochettino’s guys have annihilated Red Star Belgrade with 5-0, leaving all the frustration on the field against the Serbian champions. It was without a doubt one of the best performances of the Spurs this season. Both Harry Kane and Son scored a brace, while Erik Lamela added one more goal, reminding everyone what the capabilities of this crew are.

Spurs’ manager, Pochettino, stated following the game that he felt pleased for the first time since the start of the campaign and that he gave a day off to his boys due to fantastic performance.

“I feel OK. It’s only one game. We need a run to build our confidence but we needed to start somewhere for the confidence. Tomorrow we have a day off because they scored five goals,” said the Argentinian.

Tottenham has been on the downhill for quite some time, and the Champions League runners up were on the verge of falling apart. The speculations about Pochettino’s departure overwhelmed the media, but for now, everything is ok at the Tottenham Stadium.

Harry Kane was thrilled after the game, saying that he and his teammates need to be more efficient.

“We were ruthless in front of goal today, which we need to be more often,” Tottenham’s striker stated.

In the second match of Group B, Bayern Munich defeated Olympiakos in Athens with 2-3, although the Greeks had an early lead. It was Lewandowski who netted twice for the visiting side.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid won all three points against Galatasaray. It was one of the crucial games for the Los Blancos, who aren’t playing very well since the season started. A win against the Turkish representative was their first in this Champions League edition.

Zidane’s team won with 0-1, after a tough and fierce battle, which could have gone either way. The sole scorer for Real was Tony Kroos, after just 18 minutes following the kickoff. A win could have been even higher, but the visitors’ strikers didn’t have any composure. Real had 28 goal attempts, 14 of them on goal while Galata posted 12, three on target.

In the other game of the same assembly, Group A, PSG demolished Club Brugge in Belgium with 0-5. Kylian Mbappe posted a hat-trick, while Mauro Icardis scored a brace.

Man City tore apart Atalanta 5-1, with Raheem Sterling netting three times, and Sergio Aguero twice.

“Raheem was brilliant,” Pep Guardiola added. “He is an incredible player for us.”

In the same group, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb played 2-2 in Ukraine.

Finally, we came to Group D, where Atletico Madrid met Bayer Leverkusen. The Spaniards took three points after a minimal result, 1-0, and showcased why they are one of the best defenses on earth.

Juventus had a lot of troubles at Allianz Stadium, where Lokomotiva took an early lead. The Russian team scored through Miranchuk, which was the result of the first 45 minutes. As time went by, the Old Lady pressured the rivals, and Paulo Dybala managed to turn the score upside down with two goals.

The next batch of games is tomorrow with the derby played in Milan, where Inter awaits Borussia Dortmund.
