UEFA Champions League: Borussia Dortmund vs. Manchester City Preview, Odds, Prediction

Both Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City had compelling performances this weekend. Their matchup on Tuesday night is one of the most interesting in the UEFA Champions League, and lots of fans across Europe and the globe will watch this event. The Citizens were better in the first meeting, but the Millionaires want to erase that and take over the top spot in Group G. The stake is high because it secures the home-court advantage in the knockout stage, so both teams have big motive to win.

Dortmund (+400) smashed Stuttgart 5-0 on Saturday afternoon. It was the best performance for Edin Terzic’s crew this season, and they finally looked like a team that should challenge Bayern in the race for the Bundesliga title. 

The win over Stuttgart is the second in a row for Dortmund in which they kept clean sheets, with the previous one being over Hannover in DFB Pokal, on the road, 0-2. Previously, the Millionaires lost to Union Berlin, 2-0, and had two draws, 1-1 vs. Sevilla and 2-2 against Bayern Munich, both at home. 

Borussia didn’t lose for the last six games at Signal-Iduna Park, winning four and having two draws. Unlike the years before, Dortmund isn’t efficient too much, and its games don’t deliver goals like two or three years ago.

Manchester City (-160) rebounded following a defeat at Anfield last weekend by beating Brighton this Saturday. The final result of the game at the Etihad was 3-1 for the Citizens, who played one routine game without spending energy. 

Erling Haaland scored twice inside the first half, continuing his rampage and terror, with the Norwegian delivering his 17th Premiership goal this year. This is truly an astonishing achievement for this guy, who is on track to break numerous records.

Reus is out, and he will be sidelined for a long time. Meunier is injured too, Dahoud too, while Haller battles with his illness. Morey Bauza and Bynoe-Gittens are both injured as well.

Mendy is suspended by Man City, while Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips both have respective injuries, and they won’t play. 

Head to Head

The first game saw Man City’s 2-1 victory. Jude Bellingham brought the lead to Borussia in the 56th minute of the game, while Josh Stones in the 80th, and Haaland four minutes later flipped the result, waking up the sleepy crowd at the Etihad Stadium. 

These teams played last year, also in the UCL, only it was in the knockout stage. Manchester City was better in both events with the same result, 2-1, advancing to the next round.

Prediction

Borussia is much better at home than on the road this year, losing just one encounter in front of its fans. On the other hand, we have Guardiola’s machinery, led by the guy who knows the stadium and everything about the Millionaires – Haaland. If you want one prop pick, go with Haaland scores on Tuesday night. As for the regular pick, over 2.5 goals is our choice here, with the odds on that currently sitting at -200.
