UEFA Champions League Preview – Group H

October 16, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

We’ve saved the best for the last. The ultimate group in the UEFA Champions League, Group H, is the “death group,” as many say. Just look at the teams there, PSG, Manchester United, Red Bull Leipzig, and the Turkish champions Istanbul Basakshehir. Now, this promises a spectacle. If there were at least some fans in the standings, the pleasure would be 100%. Fasten your seatbelts, get ready; we are taking off.

PSG

The UCL runners up, one of the best teams in the world, with two of the top superstars, In short, that is PSG. They didn’t make any radical changes following the loss against Bayern Munich, adding just a few players, while on the other side, moving on from Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani.

We don’t have too many things to write about PSG. Mbappe, Neymar, Di Maria, etc., these guys are one of the most efficient teams in Europe, and are ready to score seven goals against any opponents.

That is it; we don’t want to waste your time any more.

Manchester United

On the other side, the situation at the Old Trafford is chaotic. Ole Gunnar Solskjaers is buying players like mad, but there isn’t a significant improvement in the Red Devil’s performances. The most recent slap in the face against Tottenham and Mourinho, wasn’t received well among the fans. For the first time, the Norwegian manager received a massive negative backlash from the supporters, which hadn’t been the case in the past.

Van de Beek, Amad Diallo, Alex Telles, and Cavani arrived during this transfer window. Will they improve United? We don’t know what to tell you. United is so confusing in the past few years, and something tells us that they are ahead of another mediocre campaign.

Red Bull Leipzig

Timo Werner left, and many believed that the Bulls would collapse. Instead, they eliminated Atletico Madrid in the UCL quarterfinals and, after that, gave a hard time to PSG in the semis.

Their scouting service was working hard during the summer, and there were several players landed that promise to make a major impact on their game, among them, Alexander Sorloth from Crystal Palace and Justin Kuivert from Roma, who is on loan.

Yet the biggest strength of this team is Julian Nagelsmann, the coach, one of the most talented in the world, and still young. Expect another good year from RB Leipzig.

Istanbul Basakshehir

This team is the champion of Turkey and, like that, deserves to be respected. Still, after hearing that they were heavily favored by the FA and backed up by some people from politics, we can’t be sure of their strength. If that is true, and our sources are pretty reliable, Istanbul BB could suffer some serious punches in such a hostile group.

All the above-mentioned teams are sharks, just waiting to demolish the rival, which is a potential danger for the Turkish champions. One more handicap for them is the absence of the spectators because all clubs in Turkey have a fiery atmosphere in the stands. Sometimes, that helps.

Prediction

PSG is definitely the no.1 in this group, while United and RB bid for the second place. Right now, we give a slight advantage to the Germans, who seem to have a better unit and chemistry as a team, but that doesn’t have to be the situation in the future. One thing is sure, and that is Istanbul’s last place.
