UEFA EURO 2020 Early Preview – Favorites, Busts, Dark Horses, and Odds

May 26, 2021 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The start of the UEFA EURO 2020 is getting closer, and like with all the big competitions WagerBop.com and its crew will make a preview. My dear friends Kurt and Kreighton are pretty accurate in their analysis, so I will need to keep up with their pace; otherwise, I might end up paying these guys some beer because of the higher winning percentages of their picks. Now, to get down to business.

Top Favorites

Belgium +500

Currently, the Red Devils are the No.1 team in the FIFA rankings. They are one fantastic crew, with perfectly balanced lines and a system that hasn’t been changed over the last couple of years.

The main strength of this unit is a fantastic midfield that plays “total football” and has a killer mentality when it comes to scoring. Kevin De Bruyne is the main player here, with City’s leader being the team’s brain. He is the middle man between the fantastic forwards and the backline, an assistant, a scorer himself, and a guy who presents an undisputed authority on the pitch.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Dries Mertens, Axel Witsel, Eden Hazard guarantee exciting and efficient matches.

France +400

The bookies placed them as top favorites, but on our list, they are No.2. The world champions come to this tournament aiming to repeat the success of the famous generation which took both the World Cup in 1998 and the EURO 2000.

Mbappe, Pogba, Kante, Benzema (who will probably come back), Griezmann, Varane, when looking at the names, this team has without a doubt the best team on the pitch. What is a potential problem here is the pressure, and their mentality. Apart from Mbappe and Kante, neither of these guys have been the leading players in their clubs, and some of them have stanganted in the last year or two. And that could reflect negatively on the performances.

Still, Didier Deschamps is a brilliant leader, and he should be able to suppress that and boost the confidence of his crew.

Possible Busts and Failures

England +450

Even though all the experts and the analysts see the Three Lions as the team that is very close to winning the title, we aren’t sure about that assessment. The semis and the finals take place at Wembley, in London, which was one reason why England’s stocks went this high.

Traditionally, the English team always has a good team but cracks under pressure, especially once they play on their own turf. Yes, we do agree that this squad has masterful players, but on the other hand, we haven’t seen them being impressive over the past year or two.

Just to remind you, back in 2018 in Russia, they had Dele Alli, who was their playmaker. Now, Gareth Southgate doesn’t have a player of his caliber able to organize the game on the pitch. Alli disappeared, and we haven’t seen his successor.

Dark Horses

Portugal +950

Guys, we need to tell you one thing, and you need to listen to us carefully. Portugal is not Ronaldo anymore. This team is completely different compared to the one from 2016. Cristiano is not the axis of the team anymore, but a simple upgrade on the new, fantastic generation coach Santos has.

Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Diogo Jota, Joao Felix. All these guys are under 26 years and yet to reach the peak, not to mention all other players in this team. Ronaldo isn’t dictating the game anymore, Fernandes and Silva are, and this makes Selecao even more dangerous now.

Many are underestimating Portugal, without any reason, and in our opinion, they are equally dangerous as Belgium and France.
