Zion Williamson Believes Lonzo Ball Could the Best Point Guard in the NBA

July 30, 2019 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Zion Williams expects from Lonzo Ball to become the best point guard in the NBA. He stated that earlier today in his interview for the Complex. According to Williamson, Ball has everything needed to be the league’s top playmaker, and he doesn’t doubt that at all.

The no.1 pick from this year’s draft was asked does he believes that Ball could become the NBA’s best point guard. Without any thinking, Zion answered positively:

“That is in his future.”

He previously talked about his new teammate, with very kind words. Williamson has a high opinion regarding Ball, and he didn’t hide it in the past. According to his words, the future of the former Lakers player in Louisiana is very bright.

“I’m expecting Lonzo to come into his own. I’m not saying he wasn’t himself in L.A., but now he’s in a scenario where he can truly be himself.”

Zion Williamson says Lonzo Ball will be the BEST point guard in the league one day.

By scenario, Williamson meant that Ball finally has the environment which suits him and his style of play. The Pelicans have a young and energetic team which will implement a lot of running up and down the court. And that is something Lonzo likes very much.

“We’re about to play a super-fast-paced game,” Zion revealed. “I think we all trust him with the ball and all trust him to make the right read. You’ve seen it, I’ve seen it. He’s a playmaker.”

Lonzo Ball has been labeled as one of the Lakers’ biggest busts in recent years. Magic Johnson had high hopes for this guy, which is why he chose him as the second overall pick in 2017 NBA draft. Magic believed in Ball enormously that he even traded away D’Angelo Russell, the second overall pick back in 2015. Eventually, D-Lo became an All-Star and ended in Golden State. Meanwhile, Lonzo struggled badly in LA, never reaching his full potential. He didn’t improve his shot, which affected his game a lot, couldn’t bear the pressure and was unable to fit in LeBron James’ vision of play.

Eventually, the entire season collapsed for the purple and gold, which was the ultimate sign that something in the team needs to change. From the beginning of AD’s trade talks between the Pelicans and the Lakers, Ball was a part of the package which was supposed to go to the Big Easy. Allegedly, that even ruined the chemistry in Lakers’ locker room.

During his time at the Staples Center, Ball played 99 games, averaging 10 points, 6.4 assists and 6.2 boards, along with 1.6 steals per night. But his shooting percentages were low, .380 from the field and only .437 from the free-throw line.

Now he is in New Orleans, which could be an opportunity for him to start over. There isn’t any pressure, and the environment is much healthier than in LA. The Pelicans have a roster full of young and talented guys, who are basically the same generation. If they develop correctly, they could be one of the most exciting teams in the last decade. It’s no wonder why Zion thinks that his new team has a huge potential.

“I would say I think the ceiling is a championship,” he said.

In order to reach one, Lonzo and Zion have to step up and take the lead.
