Real Madrid Victorious in Milan, Atalanta Shocks Liverpool

November 25, 2020 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

Real Madrid defeated Inter Milan on the road, while Liverpool suffered a shocking loss at home to Atalanta. In short, these two results are the most important from tonight’s UEFA Champions League matches.

Shorthanded without two of its best players, Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid defeated Inter in Milan, 0-2. It was a result that wasn’t expected according to the majority of the experts and fans, but it still happened.

Eden Hazard and an own goal by Achraf Hakimi sealed Los Blancos’ win, and Arturo Vidal’s reckless behavior, which earned him a red card, made it even easier for the guests to take all three points.

“We were in control. We were all aware that we had to be solid and work together, run hard. We have all fought for this win and we are a very good team,” said Rafael Varane, who was Real’s captain in today’s event.

In the other match of Group B, Borussia Monchengladbach defeated Shakhtar Donetsk, 4-0. They have 8 points, Real one fewer, the Ukrainians four, while Inter sits last with just two points in four contests.

Liverpool appeared in a combined lineup, and Atalanta used that to defeat the reigning English champs. It was 0-2 at Anfield for La Dea, who kept its chances of reaching the knockout stage. Ilicic and Gosens scored a goal each shortly one after another, 60th and 64th minute.

“We had a great game tonight, we managed to play our football. We played better this time, and we played quality football as well as being solid throughout,” Atalanta’s head coach Gian Piero Gasperini stated.

Meanwhile, Ajax defeated Midtjylland at home, 3-1, keeping themselves in the contention for the top two places.

Liverpool lost at home by more than one goal for the first time under Jurgen Klopp today, and didn't have a single shot on target 😵

Ajax and Atalanta are second with seven points each, Liverpool tops the assembly with 9, while Danish champs sit last without any.

The current European champions, Bayern Munich, routinely beat Red Bull Salzburg with 3-1. Robert Lewandowski scored for the first goal, Kingsley Coman doubled the lead, while Leroy Sane added one more for the hosts. Berisha was the lone scorer for the guests.

A big surprise took place in Madrid, where Atletico played without goals against Lokomotiv Moscow. After a draw in the Russian capital, Diego Simeone’s side once again couldn’t beat Lokomotiv. The Madridians attacked throughout the entire contest, but they simply couldn’t score. Guests’ goalkeeper Guilherme was fantastic and there was no way to beat him tonight.

Bayern Munich is perfect with 12 points, Atletico is second with five, while Lokomotiv has three. Red Bull is last with just one.

Finally, Group C saw two tough matches, in which guests won. The first one was in Athens, where Manchester City posted a triumph over Olympiacos, 0-1. The only scorer was Phil Foden in the 36th minute. The guests from England weren’t keen on pressuring the rivals too much, but waited for their chances, avoiding to spend too much of their energy. They clash with Tottenham this weekend.

Porto was better on the road against Olympique Marseille, 0-2. The game was ferocious and intense, with both sides receiving a red card. In the entire chaos, Porto’s experience made the difference, and the Dragons went home with all three points. Zaidy Sanusi and Sergio Oliveria were the scorers for the visiting unit.

City has 12 points, Porto 9, Olympiacos 3, and Marseille didn’t win any.
